The difference is not convenience. It is that nothing about this ends up on a device you share with other people.
A custom AI girlfriend online lives in a tab. There is no icon in the drawer, no entry in a purchase history and no notification that lands on a lock screen at the wrong moment. You open the address, confirm your age once, and the roster is there. Close the tab and the only trace is a browser history line you control.
The practical cost is that a web app has no push notifications to nag you back, and it will not run offline on a train with no signal. What an evening on the desk looks like
You open the tab, pick a character whose defaults look close, and send two lines. The first reply tells you more than any description did — usually that she is a notch too polite or a notch too eager. You say so in one sentence and the correction lands on the next message.
After twenty minutes the mix stops moving because it is right. From then on the tab is just a conversation, and the faders only come out when your mood changes rather than when hers does.
